This is something I've shared on my blog before, but I've met so many new bloggerina's, I thought it would be a perfect addition to Vintage Thingies Thursday.
It's a Christening Gown. I, as well as my two daughters were Christened in this gown. It was made for me.
Notice the hand embroidery...This detailing is also on the skirt of the gown but I was unable to get a good shot of it.

And cap. The embroidery was never completed on this. I've thought about having someone "finish" it, but that's all I've done...just "think" about it.

What a beautiful gown, I know you cherish it. Do you have it stored in a special way? Wouldn't it be great for your Granddaughters to use it also one day.

Exquisite! I'd leave the cap unfinished. That is as much a part of it's history as anything else.

The gown is just lovely. That kind of work isn't done much today as the supplies aren't readily available and heirloom embroidery is almost a lost art.
Have you seen gowns displayed in shadow boxes that hang on the wall? Yours would surely look lovely that way. :)

The gown and bonnet are precious! My friend had someting similar and she had a shadowbox made for it and displayed it on her wall.
What a lovely family heirloom to cherish. I don't think you should have anyone finish the cap, just because that's part of it's charm.
How lovely to own a special piece of clothing to be passed on. A christening gown is a treasure indeed!

Absolutely beautiful- I have mine but sadly my frugal Mum cut it short & both my sisters wore it as a Sunday dress.it's worn & thing now.You are son fortunate to have this treasure.

Oh, Rechelle, that christening gown is gorgeous. A lot of love went into that precious gown. It is so awesome that your daughter's wore it too. The bonnet is so sweet. Do you have photos? I'll be waiting to see them.

What a beautiful gown. We all wore the same gown and now our kids are wearing it too.
Lovely gown. I too have a dress that I wore as a baby and that my daughter also wore. It's still in perfect condition and waiting the next girl in the family! :) Isn't it great when we can have a family heirloom that means so much.
