Vintage Thingies Thursday 3/19
It's time for Vintage Thingies Thursday! Be sure to pay Suzanne, THE COLORADO LADY, a visit. See who else is going vintage!
How I love Red! Below you will see one of my very favorite treasures. I know, I know. It looks rather unassuming but if a bowl could talk, what stories it could tell. Like when momma would make her tortillas and put little dough balls aside for me to roll out. Oh! Or when momma decided to snap her own beans and set some in this bowl for me to snap...boy I felt so helpful! I know! When momma would make pudding in this bowl and set it inside the fridge. She would even let me lick the mixers. This precious bowl is but one of a nesting set of four. They came in primary colors (listed by order of greatest size) yellow, green, red, and blue. I have this red one and the blue one (which is another of my favorite cereal bowls). My mother dropped the yellow one and we lost the green one just a few months ago when we had our last sizable quake. I've been perusing garage sales & thrift stores so that I may replace what has been broken, but I've had no luck. I've seen them on Ebay, but the cost sure runs up and then adding the shipping and it's gone beyond my "milk money".
Did you know Pyrex has a rather interesting history? If you'd like to know more about it's origins, click here.
Thanks for spending some of your time with me. I hope the rest of your day is FABULOUS!

Love that red bowl. I know what you mean about adding shipping to finds on ebay...it really adds up. Thanks for sharing with us today.
i love your little red bowl...i hope you unearth a few more in your travels :)..love the Beatles music too!!
Hi Rechelle, I love your red pyrex bowl. They just don't make bowls anymore like they use to huh?
Love, Ann
Your red little bowl looks so nice, and with the memories it is a true treasure.
Thank you for the history link.
Rechelle, your pretty red bowl brings back sweet memories for me. My mother had the same colorful set of nesting Pyrex bowls. She got them as a wedding gift. I always loved them and she gave me the two she had left years ago. Small things make the most wonderful, sentimental, comforting memories, don't they?
I remember my mother's collection of Pyrex measuring cups and glass baking dishes. Your red bowl is very pretty.

That is an especially beautiful picture with the yellow lemons in the red bowl. I'm an eBayer too, and the shipping is something to be careful about. Here's mine: http://smilingsally.blogspot.com/2009/03/grandpas-needle-and-safety-pin.html
Love the red bowl with the lemons. I saw this entire set at an antique store. Think they were asking $65 dollars. I have several Pyrex refrigerator dishes. Need to dig them out.
Love the bowl and the stories. Hope you find some more sometime.
I too have family Pyrex but just the plain glass bowls/casseroles.
I can take one glance at your lovely bowl and I am back in my aunt's kitchen learning to cook. My Mom was the rare "working" mother but there was a squad of relatives to raise me. I love your bowl and all things vintage.
Have a Thankful Thursday

I have some of those bowls - not collecting, they just came with the new husband!
I would imagine every kitchen having some piece of pyrex or corning in them. These bowls are great and red is one of my favs.
My MIL has these bowls. I really love them! The red is so pretty!
I also love red. Isn't it great the memories these things stir up. Thanks for sharing.
I love Pyrex bowls. I'm glad to hear of your fond memories. I had a set of three like this, except mine were orange, green and yellow.
I love items with memories; and I also love red, too! Come on over on Wednesdays where I post red stuff - I call it "REDnesday"!
A cute red bowl full of memories!
I loved your red bowl..and your sweet memories. Thank you for sharing them and hope you have a fantastic day. Happy VTT.
Every time I eat at my mom she pulls out the same old Pyrex we have been using since I was tiny little thing. I love to see that bowl.
Love your bowl! What sweet memeories you shared. Thanks! Paula from Idaho
This is my favorite bowl, too, for big salads just for me, or as a soup bowl! I have all 4 colors. A set of 3 was giving to my mom as a wedding gift in 1963. She received 2 sets, so one stayed in the basement as a replacement, and by the time I left home it had never been opened, so she gave it to me. I got the big yellow one from a boyfriend's mom, it was the only one she had left and she wanted me to have a complete set. I love how homey they make a table feel when I use them as serving bowls.
cool, I love pyrex, what a neat story about your bowl :-) btw I am digging your music by the beatles in here...
When I am out looking for bargains
I rarely see these bowls up for
sale. Because people keep them
FOREVER, the best bowls ever made-
right? Anyway my point is I would
try estate sales to find these bowls.
Good luck!
Hello friend!
Love your red bowl. I have a large pink one!! I have sold sets of them at the antique store a couple years back and they went for good money...not so much anymore!!!
Have a good weekend.
Warmly,
Deb :)
Great Color, I have a yellow one that I use for mixing cookies ALL THE TIME. Thanks for sharing.
pretty red bowly.. hope you could find the colours you looking for.. thanks for sharing and have a good weekend!
Your red little bowl looks so nice..
Pretty bowl! I love the picture :)
I've taken a liking to Pyrex as well and just nabbed a peachy colored one.
Everyone in this family is gaga over the Beatles. I only like ONE song and it's this one! Thanks!
Pyrex bowls are the best! Funny how so many fond memories of family involve something to do with food and the kitchen! The kitchen is the HEART of a home! Thanks for sharing and for stopping by!
Hey Rechelle; What a great story about the beautiful Red bowl.. How funny it is;;; my Mom had the Yellow one, and when she passed daddy gave it to me. I loved that bowl I made every thing in it. Then one sad day it slipped out of my hands and it broke on the floor, I cried for quite a while. I wish I could find another one, but like you said it is very expensive to buy one.... sigh I miss that bowl, nothing seems to taste the same any more.....
Hugs;
Alaura
Love the red bowl!
Love the bowl and the memories with it. I'm so sorry you've lost two of the set. I'm thinking estate auctions or sales would be a good place to find replacements.
Have a good weekend, Rechelle☺
