A new Look...

As we've been doing the "face lift" in our kitchen, I've tried to create more of an "open & fresher" feel. One of the things we did was take off the doors to one of the cabinets and create an "open shelf" look. It's gone through various "looks" but I think I'm getting closer to what I want, how I want it to look, and as you can see it's really evolved.

This is how it looked when we began and before we'd made any changes...

We'd just gotten the crown molding put up at this point...
Here we are as of today...I'm a wine drinker and I like my glasses to be within reach. These are the ones I tend to use the most so I kept these easily accessible. What about that second shelf from the bottom? Do I leave the rolling pin or put it away? The next shelf up is where I"m stuck. I've got the white plates up, but do I continue to add white or shall I "layer" it with some red and green bread plates? I like the top shelf the way it is. I love the way the old green jelly jars just "pop" up there. So, what do you think? I'm so obsessed about getting this to look "just right" that I keep playing around with it but as I've posted before...I'm really experiencing a huge decorating brain fart. I just seem to get "stuck". Thoughts and suggestions are welcome and most appreciated.

I think you should change the background paper to go with the season....find a Valentine's paper for february..and so on....I think it could be considered the revolving cabinet that would keep the kitchen spunky. I like the red paper you have in it. I also like the rolling pin....looks all vintagey. It looks good just the way you hav it also....keep up the great work!!!

I love the rollin pin and everything else. It looks great. I've always wanted some open cabinets like that. I've got a list a mile long of kitchen improvements I'd like to make. One day :)

I love the white cabinets and the colors inside. I always think that less is more so don't overdecorate. But maybe a touch of red with the white plates would be nice. I like the rolling pin.

Hi Rechelle, I love your new shelf look. I also like the rolling pin. It works with the other baking things.
I think you need more on the top two shelves. Not to over load it but more. You are looking good. Smile.

I'm glad you enjoyed the quiz. your close to my score so we are in the same category. I think that's a plus because we like each other.

Hi Rechelle,
It sounds like you need a tv cabinet like mine, thats the only way I know to distract from those big monster tv's, that is what I used to have that's why I had to put my fireplace on the front of it because I had a big hole where my tv used to go. Good luck and your cabinet looks good, maybe on the second shelf down you could add a doily since you really won't be getting anything down from there for it to get in the way and maybe if you have some other pretty serving bowl you could put in there, or some pretty flowers or ivy?? Just have fun with it and play around with stuff, you can always change it (; and no I haven't told Jeff I want to change the cabinet yet, I think it's growing on me (:

Hi Rechelle, I'm NO GOOD at decorating advice! I do like the rolling pin there though :) I also like the way you used the paper in the background.

I just need to find space to put all of my JUNK away. Tim and Rich have their model making stuff piled high in one corner! :)

take care,
Dawn

Yes, add the green plates with the white to progress down from the green jelly jars. That would be lovely. xxoo

That third shelf need something, maybe a vintage McCoy vase or a pretty and colorful pitcher. Keep on playing and you'll get it perfect in no time! Blessings, Becky G.

It looks good so far. I like all the suggestions given to you. I don't know if I have any to add except to keep playing with it. I also like the rolling pin. I think that is cute that way.

LOVE it. Keep the rolling pin there! Layer with the white plates, perhaps green in the middle and something red on the sides?

Miss Cookie is so cute!

Pretty pink and blue days you've shared too. You know I love that vintage prom dress... and your baby bonnet, how gorgeous!!

Love the bathroom too~

The crown molding does so much for the room..good call! I love the idea of having just one cupboard open like that. I would probably use one shelf for all of my cookbooks so I could easily grab them. I have some old green jars, too...aren't they just the prettiest!
